Project Case Studies

 Lake Valley Residential Wells

Lake Valley, NM

Canyon Construction has been hired as a subcontractor to Stewart Brothers Drilling Company of Milan, New Mexico to connect 7 new residential wells. Stewart Brothers is under contract by the Navajo Nation Division of Water Resources to drill the individual wells. The project is located within the Lake Valley, NM Chapter and is bringing much needed water to one of the more remote areas of the Navajo Nation. The Navajo Nation is the largest Indian reservation in the world and is comprised of over 27,000 square miles throughout New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.

 Northridge Sewer System Rehabilitation Project

Ignacio, CO

Canyon Construction Company has been contracted by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe (SUIT) to replace 2,720’ of aging 8” gravity sewer main, and rehabilitate, via pipe-bursting, another 8,660’ of pipe. The project includes the replacement and/or rehabilitation of the associated manholes, and the reconnection of 77 sanitary sewer taps. Construction of the project started in January 2026, and will be completed by late summer, 2026.

 Yellowman Siphon Concrete Pipe Replacement

Nenahnezad, NM

Canyon Construction (dba Canyon Excavation) collaborated with Goff Engineering to deliver a Design-Build proposal to replace a 270’ section of leaking 36” reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) pipe within the Yellowman Siphon irrigation system. The project is contracted by the Navajo Nation Division of Water Resources.

The complexities of the project include steep, rocky terrain, and the removal and installation of large pipe within those conditions. The existing 36” RCP is being replaced with 36” HDPE, associated elbows, and adapters. The timeline for the project is also critical, due to the irrigation water being turned back on in the spring.

Waste Water Infrastructure Improvements

Silverton, CO

The Town of Silverton is undertaking a project to replace and rehabilitate its sewer collection system, which is more than 100 years old. Canyon Construction has been awarded to replace and rehabilitate approximately 22,747 feet of existing 8-inch and 10-inch sewer mains. The project also includes replacing 14 manholes, rehabilitating 49 manholes, reconnecting sanitary sewer taps, and constructing a new pumphouse at the wastewater treatment facility.

Three Springs Crossing Replacement

Durango, CO

 

Canyon Construction entered into a contract with the South Durango Sanitation District to remove and replace approximately 1,500’ of existing 10″ PVC with 15” PVC and 16” HDPE pipe. The 15” PVC replaced the existing 10″ PVC in the open-cut sections and the 16” HDPE was used in three (3) sections where the pipe-bursting method was utilized. The pipe-bursting method was used due to the depth of the existing line and surface obstacles.

Aneth Arsenic Treatment System and Waterline

Aneth, UT

 

Canyon Construction Company is contracted by the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) to construct a 4,650’ water line, connecting existing water wells to a new Arsenic Treatment Facility (ATF). The ATF consists of a 45 x 30 CMU building, which will house an AdEdge package treatment skid that will treat water from the two wells using an oxidation/filtration process. The project will bring much needed clean water to the community, north of Aneth Utah.

City of Durango- Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvements

La Plata County Airport

 

Canyon is contracted for full upgrades to the outdated wastewater treatment facility. We will be rehabilitating all the lagoons complete with new liner, aeration systems and piping, and floating covers. This will include the construction of a building to house the new blowers for the aeration system, an intercell control structure to direct flows to new equipment, a polishing reactor and a moving bed bio reactor. All of this will be completed while the current systems are in operation.

Durango Mesa Waterline and Roadway

Durango, CO

 

Canyon Construction is subcontracted by Four Corners Materials to install a section of the new 10” domestic waterline that will serve Durango Mesa. Canyon is installing the section of the pipeline using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). The waterline begins at the Horse Gulch Trailhead and terminates approximately 565’ away, on top of the mesa. From there, the waterline will be installed utilizing open-cut, conventional methods. The section Canyon is installing is a true challenge, due to depths exceeding 80’, drilling through solid rock, and negotiating an elevation change of over 100’. Canyon Construction utilizes the latest HDD technologies for locating the drill head, planning the bore’s alignment, and developing as-built documentation.

Naschitti Chapter San Juan Lateral Connection

Naschitti, NM

 

Canyon Construction Company assisted Clawson Excavation on the “Naschitti Chapter San Juan Lateral Connection” project, by installing an 18” casing, 260’ across U.S. Highway 491, in Northern New Mexico. Canyon utilized our Barbo 36/42 auger machine in concert with our Boretec OTS steering head and control station.
The project was another step in expanding the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply System throughout the Navajo Nation, getting clean water to its’ people. Canyon is honored to play a small part in the expansion of this water system.

2-Million Gallon Water Tank Demolition

Ignacio, CO

 

Canyon Construction Company and Recla Metals teamed up to demolish & recycle an existing 2-million-gallon water tank for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. The steel salvaged from the tank was hauled to Recla’s facility, where it was transferred to a location to be melted down and incorporated into new steel products.

Rock Creek Subdivision

This project focused on the development of vacant land in Ignacio, CO. The project included the expansion of the domestic water, raw water, sewer, electrical, communication, and gas system to the area. The infrastructure expansion also included site grading, subgrade stabilization, curb & gutter, sidewalk, storm drainage, street lighting and paving.
